Finally! The Real Techniques Bold Metals collection has been made widely available. They're now sold on the Real Techniques website and a few Canadian stores, such as London Drugs. I love the Pixiwoo sisters and their original brush line, so when these brushes were released I was itching to give them a try.
I only purchased one brush for now, the 300 Tapered Blush Brush. With its small, tapered head I thought it would be the most versatile of the lot. The tapered shape means that it fits nicely into the hollows of the cheeks for contouring, as well under the eyes for powdering and on top of the cheekbones for highlighting. The size is also perfect for blush application. It's quite small so you get your product exactly where you want it.
The synthetic hairs are unbelievably soft. They practically make the old brushes seem scratchy. While this brush works alright with powders (some powders better than others) its strong suit is the way that it works with creams. It picks up cream product easily and blends it seamlessly. I've been obsessively using it for cream blush application. And like the original collection, these brushes wash very easily.
They are significantly more expensive than the original brushes. However, you're paying for a whole other level of quality. The hairs are actually sewn into the ferrule, as well as glued in and they're cut with absolute precision. The brushes are weighted, which I quite like because you feel like you've got something of substance in your hand. They're also incredibly beautiful to look at. The long tapered handle and the metallic finish is something special. It's undoubtedly a luxury item. The good news is that for UK folk, they're a heck of a lot cheaper on the official website than in Boots. Yay!
