FASHION FACES: 2.0

It’s no secret by now that I love a good bit of 60’s makeup. There was something about that era that was fun and original, but still managed to stay classy... unlike certain other eras (I’m looking at you 80’s). So I decided it was time to do a throwback and I brought my revoltingly good looking sister along for a second round of Fashion Faces.

HAVING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

There’s such an intense focus in our culture to find something great, something that makes us whole, and hold onto it for the rest of our lives. You have to find the perfect man, get married and have that last perfectly for a lifetime. Or find the perfect group of friends and then grow old with them. But none of that mentality is healthy for us.

GLOWING SKIN FOR OILY GALS

I think it’s fair to say that normal and dry skinned gals have the upper hand in creating beautiful glowing complexions. They can just slap on whatever dewy products they want, wherever they want, and it looks amazing. Meanwhile, us oily skin types have to worry about turning into an oil slick if we go overboard. But a lot of us still want to achieve that healthy, radiant complexion. I reckon it’s doable, it just takes a little bit more strategic planning to pull off. So I’ll walk you through my plan of action.

BARRY M LADY: THE GOOD GLITTER

Good lord. If someone had told me before this post how hard hand modeling is I would have laughed in their face. But now... respect. I’m not much of a nail polish girl in general and I’m definitely not a glittery nail polish kind of girl. That being said, I’ve gone ahead and fallen in love with a glitter nail polish.

BLOGS I'VE ENJOYED RECENTLY: ROUND 2

Round two of sharing the love has arrived. Blogs I’ve enjoyed recently. Let’s get mushy up in heeee-a! Maybe just a bit?

5 QUICK WAYS TO CLEAN UP YOUR BLOGGER TEMPLATE

Why hello everyone. I’m a bit hesitant in writing this post today. I’m not sure how much interest it will generate, but I thought on the off chance that it would be helpful to anyone (especially for those of you starting out in designing your blog) I'd write it anyway. Building my blog template has been one of the most exciting parts of the whole blogging experience for me so far. I spent a few months putting my template together before I initially launched my blog. Then a few months after launching I began thinking it looked too childish and I did a big redesign. When I first sat down to design my blog I hadn’t a clue how to even begin to customize the code. Fortunately, I have an amazing techie friend who taught me a lot. I’m now at the point where I feel fairly confident in tinkering around. So I thought I’d share a few quick and easy tips that helped to clean up the appearance of my template.

THE SUNDAY NIGHT MASK SESSION

There’s nothing like sitting down to a good movie and slapping on a nice face mask on a Sunday night. While I wouldn’t necessarily consider a face mask an essential part of a skincare routine, they do make you feel pampered and they can be a great booster in helping to combat whatever skincare woe you might be struggling with. I’ve got three options to chat about and I shant dilly dally any longer.

TIME FOR SOME DRAAAMMMMAAAA

My everyday aesthetic tends to be light and natural to the point I often get people saying “yeah, but you don’t wear makeup do you?”  I love that healthy effortless look, but every once in a while it feels good to bring the drama. Amiright? And nothing says drama and glamour quite like a bit of sparkle and a red lip (and some contouring, highlighting and matching red nails while we’re at it). So what pickeroos have we here?

HOLY BAGS WHAT HAVE I DONE

Makeup bags are something that I’ve found very useful since I’ve started blogging. They help to add a bit of colour or texture into the shot when composing a photo and they break up the space so that you don’t have one big block of white (or whatever your background may be) with a bunch of products hanging out on it awkwardly. Shockingly, they also come in handy as actual makeup bags. As you can see, I’ve particularly fallen in love with pouches. They’re so simple and chic. I know that no normal human being needs this many makeup bags (sadly this isn’t even all that I own), but I’ve proven time and time again that I’m far from a normal human being. So where can you find one of these beautiful creatures if you don’t want to dish out the cash for a Whistles bag?

HOW I EDIT MY PHOTOS

I take my photos with a Canon Rebel T3i and the EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens – the blogger special. That combo is a gem. But having a decent camera and lens (and good lighting) is only one of many aspects that make an appealing finished product. I use a variety of photo editing software on both my laptop and my phone to tinker about before I’m ready to put my photos up for your guys’ eyes.

FASHION FACES: 1.0

I don’t know if I’ve ever talked much about fashion makeup here in the past, but it’s something that I’ve been a bit of a fanatic about for years. I idolized Pat McGrath’s work before I even knew that she was the hand behind most runway shows. My Pinterest Makeup board is covered in shots of her work. And personally I love having a creative outlet where makeup can be more that something to make yourself feel pretty. So I’ve decided to start a fashion series that has nothing to do with day to day makeup, but instead is about enjoying the artistry of makeup. I really hope it’s something that you guys will enjoy.

THE I FEEL LIKE SHET MAKEUP

I think everyone has days where they wake up, look in the mirror and just think “Christ.” Sometimes it’s breakouts, sometimes it’s the dreaded puffy face and sometimes it’s just plain old dark under eye circles and lackluster skin. On days like these I’m not someone who wants to cheer myself up with a smoky eye and a red lip. I just want to get myself looking healthy again. I try to focus my attention on bringing light and colour back into the face and I’ve got a few steps that help me to do that.

EYE PRIMERS: SAVE OR SPLURGE

I have really oily eyelids and, like a lot of people I’m sure, I can’t get eyeshadow to last until the end of the day. It always ends up completely bunched into a few measly lines and it’s only gotten worse since we’ve hit the heat of summer. So over the past couple years I’ve tried a few different things to help with the longevity.

JULY FAVOURITES

And yet another month hath rolled around. Is it not the way of life I ask you? Methinks it is. And with this great changing of the times comes yet another presentation of mine favourites of a passed month. In other words, monthly favourites time. Yay! I find it hard to include eye and lip products sometimes because on a day to day basis I don’t usually wear that much of that stuff. I tend to get most use out of base products, and usually the same old boring ones at that. But I do have a few eye and lip options that I’ve used more than once this month, which is saying a lot for me.
