I was looking through my lipstick collection the other day, because, you know, that’s how I do, and I thought to myself good lord, I have a ridiculous amount of berry toned lipsticks. Well my friends, you know what that means. It’s swatchy, swatchy time. Everyone goes nuts for berry lips come fall and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. They’re sophisticated, sultry and brave.
Colourpop I Heart This
Easily the most fun colour of the bunch, Colourpop’s I Heart This is a beautiful matte shade that doesn’t dry out your lips. It’s a bit more pink and bright than the rest and applies very creamily. Plus… $5. I mean, come on. Commmme on.
Nars Damned
It’s no secret that I’m in love with the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. I’m not generally one to collect a huge amount of colours from a range, but this one is different. The formula is the most matte and the most beautiful of anything I’ve ever seen. They truly look like velvet on your lips. Damned it such a sophisticated colour. It’s not so dark that it’s scary, but it’s still delicious and rich.
Nars Train Bleu
It’s going to take some bravery to wear this one. I just purchased Train Bleu the other day and I haven’t yet warn it out. It had been on my wish list for years. I figured now that I’m working at Sephora it would be a good time to go for it. This colour is as deep as it gets without going black and it leans a touch more purple than any of the other shades here.
Milani Sangria
This is also new to me. I was excited to see that it’s noted as a dupe for MAC Rebel. The colour is very similar, but I’m sad the say the formula isn’t as good. It’s a bit more waxy and challenging to apply to dry lips. Still, at $6, it ain’t so bad.

*Pixi Plum Berry
I was lucky enough to be sent this guy from Pixi. You can see from the swatches that it isn’t nearly as matte as the Nars options, but it still isn’t glossy by any means. Pixi calls these their mattelustre formula. For those that can’t stand that drying feeling on their lips, but they still want a semi-matte finish, this is a beaut. Plus the colour is gawjus.
Rimmel 09
I’m confused by the numbering/naming system of these Kate Moss lipsticks, but my tube says 09. Hopefully that’s still the case. I think this is the oldest berry lipstick that I own and, let me tell you, it’s stood the test of time. It’s still one of my favourite colours and the formula is bangin’! It’s so intensely pigmented. If you can still find this bad boy in the drugstores I highly recommend picking it up.
Wet N Wild Cherry Bomb
A great dupe for MAC’s Diva at a whopping $2, Cherry Bomb is a great place to start experimenting with dark colours. It’s a true burgundy shade, which can be less frightening than something purpley, and the formula is pretty impressive for the price. It’s matte, but not so matte that it’s going to leave your lips parched.
