HOW TO DO AN INSTANT EYE LIFT WITH MAKEUP

Not everyone is born with the eyes of Angelina Jolie. In fact, you could say that only Angelina Jolie was born with those eyes. Good one. But you catch my drift. She has those gorgeous, sexy eyes that seem to somehow defy gravity. Well we're here today to fake it my friends! As per usual, I've laid out the process in a simple five step format.

1. Arch the brow
The first thing to think about when you're trying to create the illusion of lifted eyes is the shape of your brows. Normally I create a fairly straight shape when filling in my brows. However, today I went for a bit of a stronger arch (as strong as my brows can go without plucking). It helps to pull the whole eye up.

2. Apply a light lid colour
Light colours generally open up the eye. Using a light colour over the lid will brighten things up and help to avoid looking too weighed down for the next few steps.

3. Lift your wing dramatically
This is where the true magic happens. Winged liner can totally alter the shape of your eyes. In order to get a really good lift, you need to angle your wings upwards quite dramatically. Also extending them out quite far will add to the lifted effect. If you struggle with creating a good shape to your wings, I've got a foolproof method here.

4. Fill in the inner third with a darker colour
Another handy little trick is to smudge a dark colour into the inner third of your lower lash line. That will pull the lower, inner corners of your eye down, which will further emphasize the lift that you get from your wings.

5. Focus mascara only on the top lashes
The last thing to consider is the application of your mascara. Curling your lashes and applying generous coats of mascara to your top lashes will certain help add to the lifted effect. However, be careful not to go overboard applying mascara to your lower lashes. That can pull the eye back down. I applied just a tiny amount to mine in order to help balance the look.
