The great thing about working in the beauty industry is that I get to try out a ton of makeup. There are some fantastic products out there that receive major hype through the blogging and Youtube community. But I want to forget about those products today. Instead, I want to tell you guys about some good'n's that I don't hear a lot of chatter around. I've picked out eight gems and imma break down why they deserve a little more love.
Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Bronzer
There are three bronze shades in this range and they are everything I could ask for and more. The colours and perfect – not too orange or too muddy, just right. And the finish of them is beautiful. They have the slightest radiant sheen, without visible sparkle, that gives you that “matte, but not flat” look. They're also not overly pigmented so it's easy to build up your bronze without going overboard. Gawwjuuss.
Estee Lauder Double Wear High Cover Concealer
The NARS Pure Radiant Creamy Concealer gets a lot of love because it's great for both undereyes and blemishes. This offering from Estee Lauder should get just as much love, if not more, in my wee little opinion! It sits naturally under the eyes and is amazing for covering spots. It's highly pigmented and creamy enough for both purposes.
Laura Mercier Secret Concealer
This Laura Mercier concealer on the other hand, is probably only appropriate for under eyes. It's much creamier and likely won't stick to blemishes in the same way. This product reminds me of a better version of the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealers/Correctors. It has the same colour correcting properties, but with a lot more pigment and blendability. The only down side is that it is so creamy that it won't be appropriate for anyone that struggles with fine lines.
Marc Jacobs Liners
These liners go on creamier than Lady Sybil's voice (I hopped on the Downton bandwagon much later than most). Now that's creamy. But unlike a lot of other creamy liners, these bad boys stick around for ages. Once they set they stay like that uninvited house guest that sleeps on your couch for months on end. If you want something that will last in your waterline, look no further.
Tarte Cheek Stains
If you want a truly dewy, radiant flush to your skin, the Tarte Cheek Stains are an amazing product. They have a much more glossy look than your average cream blush. It always makes me think of that “I've just been out in the cold and I'm fabulous” look. You know the one I'm talking about.
Smashbox Halo and Photo Filter Powders
How do these powders not get more hype?! A common theme I find in powder foundations is that the colours are wacky. They tend to lean either far too pink or far too orange. Smashbox seems to have breezed past that issue and created two ranges of powders with very realistic tones. The Halo Powder is wonderful because it's formulated to be a hydrating powder. For that reason I find it looks quite un-powdery on the skin. If you're looking for more coverage, the Photo Filter Powder is excellent as it's extremely buildable and, again, sits naturally on the skin.
Anastasia Waterproof Creme Colour
I've always said that you may as well buy your gel liners from the drugstore because they're just as good as high end ones. Well, this product changed my mind. The Anastasia Gel Liner is in a whole other league of creaminess and workability. And of course, once it sets, it ain't going anywhere. It's incredible. Every other gel liner feels like crap to me now.
Sephora Teint Infusion Foundation
Finishing on a foundation, because why not, the Sephora Teint Infusion performs like a much higher end product. It's medium coverage, lightweight on the skin and has a satin finish. It works wonderfully on my oily skin (no separation, good lasting powder) and sits nicely on drier skin types as well. The shade range is fairly extensive and the price sits at a reasonable $24 US.
